The Consortium of Indigenous Peoples and Local Community Organizations (CIPLCOs) is a non-profit organization formed to represent the underrepresented voices across the country of Liberia, protecting livelihoods, local economies, and key ecosystems.
WHO WE ARE
CIPLCOs is a national consortium, founded in 2023, to represent indigenous communities and local community organizations. CIPLCOs leadership consists of a board of directors, each hailing from one of the member organizations. CIPLCOs acts to coordinate action across the country of Liberia that add to the betterment of the many indigenous communities.
CIPLCOs focuses its attention on those who are least heard, while having the potential to significantly impact the future. Beyond the indigenous communities, CIPLCOs focuses on the representation, advocacy, and educational development of women, girls, children, disabled people, and other minorities within the communities across Liberia.
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
Indigenous and rural peoples are among the most vulnerable to economic and climate changes, yet they are often excluded from the decision-making processes related to such changes. Often lacking the resources or education, these communities are unable to impact their situation in a meaningful manner.
THE ROLE THEY PLAY
Coming from a background tied to their environment, Indigenous peoples play a key role in helping the world in its current climate crisis. As knowledge-bearers of food systems that have survived for centuries and as modern-day practitioners who are perfectly positioned to represent and protect the environment, indigenous peoples need to be made a central part of the global effort against climate change.
CIPLCOs acts as a voice for the indigenous peoples of Liberia, protecting their knowledge about living with the land and helping to spread it as a way of life with other communities and beyond.
